You know those mornings when you literally can’t with your hair? Yea, been there. This week on The Braid Up, we’re giving you a hairstyle that’ll fit in perfectly with your lazy mornings. It’s time to level up from your struggle bun to this braided bun with cornrows.
This is going to be your new go-to look—why? Because it’s way low-maintenance and really freakin’ cute. Our hair braider extraordinaire, Stasha Harris, gives us all the deets on how to bring this look to life.
Down to recreate this braided bun? Here are the tips, tricks, and products you’ll need.
1. Lather up with a sulfate-free shampoo. It’ll cleanse your hair—giving you a good foundation for your braids—without stripping your hair of natural oils.
2. Separate your hair into sections before hand. This makes it so much easier for you and your braider to map out your look. Make sure you’re good with the number of cornrows before your stylist starts braiding!
3. Let your braider know if your braids are too tight. Speak up! Too tight of braids can cause major damage to your hairline, your hair, and your scalp.
4. Use a toothbrush to lay your edges. If you can’t figure out how to use a rat-tail comb to keep your edges on point (don’t worry, I’m in the same boat), use a toothbrush instead. Brush out your baby hairs, put some non-flaky edge control on the brush, and then swoop it into a cute design.
And there you go—those are the four easy tips and tricks you need to know to recreate this braided bun with cornrows! Don’t forget to watch the video above before you hit up your braider.
